History and Mission



Kregel Publications, a division of Kregel, Inc., is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and began in 1949 to publish resources to meet the spiritual needs of evangelical readers as well as the professional needs of pastors, missionaries, teachers, and Christian leaders. Kregel began its publishing program with reprints of classic Christian works in theology and Bible commentaries. Today Kregel's publishing program includes an expanding list of new works in theology and academics, Christian education and ministy, contemporary issues, Christian living, biblical studies, fiction, and children's titles.  Its publishing line is also supported by a strong backlist of over  900 titles. Many of its new works are offered in multiple platforms, including Kindle, ePub, and PDF editions.

Kregel, Inc., also has a Spanish-language division, Editorial Portavoz, a leading publisher in the worldwide evangelical Spanish community. Established by veteran missionaries, Harold and Esther Kregel, Editorial Portavoz began in Spain in 1970 and in 1982 relocated to Grand Rapids. Editorial Portavoz offers a wide selection of over 500 titles for ministry, spiritual growth, and Bible study.

Kregel, Inc., also represents Lion Hudson plc of Oxford, England in the North American market as the exclusive distributor of Monarch Books, Lion Fiction and Candle Books and the religious market distributor for Lion Books and Lion Children's Books.
